From websites-info at tamu-commerce.edu Fri Jun 26 10:55:36 2009 From: websites-info at tamu-commerce.edu (websites-info@tamu-commerce.edu) Date: Fri, 26 Jun 2009 10:55:36 -0500 Subject: [Websites-info] FTP Access for Updating Web Pages Message-ID: <7883A277E46C4B40B6E5D1B14A69B6580568916C@exchangeserver.tamu-commerce.edu> This message is being sent to individuals that are designated as the owner of any departmental or faculty web site in an effort to communicate a permanent change in procedures for using the FTP protocol to update a web page. Because the FTP protocol sends username and password credentials unencrypted across the network, there is an inherit risk that this information could be captured and possibly used to deface web pages. To minimize this risk, A&M-Commerce will no longer provide direct FTP access to its web sites via the Internet effective July 13, 2009. FTP access from the campus network including the Metroplex Center, UCD, Navarro and Midlothian will still be enabled, but users needing to make changes remotely will need to use the Cisco Virtual Private Network (VPN) client to encrypt and tunnel their ftp connections into the A&M-Commerce network. For more information on getting the VPN software and installing it, please contact the Technology Services Help Desk at helpdesk at tamu-commerce.edu or 903-468-6000.
